Large connections

If you need planning permission for your development, you should obtain this before applying for your new connection.

You will need to provide the following:

• The size of the pipe you plan to install
• Site location plan which shows the position of your development in relation to the surrounding area
•  A drainage layout plan showing how you are disposing of foul and surface water (not applicable for standpipes, troughs, compounds)
• A schematic drawing will be required for any non-domestic premises  (e.g. industrial, commercial, fire suppression etc.)
• The minimum, average and maximum flow rates for the development. This is calculated by the required flow at your busiest time of day; with the realistic maximum number of appliances on simultaneously.

Important: In most cases, you will also need to provide us with a unique property reference number (UPRN) before we can complete your connection. If you are building a new property or converting an existing one, please register the property with the local council as soon as possible to avoid any delays to your connection.

We will acknowledge your application within 5 calendar days, including a request for any additional information if required.

Please note, we will be unable to proceed to the site survey until your application is full and complete. 

Our scheduler will contact you in 7 calendar days to arrange a site visit.

Someone will need to be available on site to meet our inspector to discuss your requirements.

The point of connection will be marked up on site during this visit.

You will need to obtain landowner’s permission for any connections in private land or roads.

We will provide your quotation within 28 calendar days of us receiving your full application

Your quotation is valid for a minimum of 1 month or until the end of the financial year. The expiry date will be on your quotation letter.

Please ensure you have read and understood the terms and conditions provided with your quotation.  

Once you have paid your quotation, you will need to dig your trench and lay your pipework in line with our specifications. View our technical requirements

You will need to contact us when you’re ready for inspection.

We will arrange for an inspector to attend site to inspect your pipework and excavation(s). We aim to complete trench inspections within 3 working days.

All connections must comply with The Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999.

We will issue you a letter conditionally approving your connection.

In certain cases, our Water Regulations & Fittings team may also contact you separately to discuss your installation. We will let you know if this will be required when you apply.

Chlorination must be carried out by a certified contractor and should be completed within a 10-calendar day period, before the date of connection.

Once you have received your connection date from Wessex Water, it is important that you plan and arrange for the chlorination, water quality sampling and testing to be completed (and sent to us) during this time window.

Sample results must include the following:

Free and total chlorination residuals at the time of sampling also need to be provided on the chlorination certificate.

Once we have confirmed you are ready for connection, we will be in touch to arrange a connection date with you.

We aim to make connection within 21 calendar days. However, if a road closure is required, this may take up to 3 months.

Once your connection is complete, we will email you with details on how to set up your billing account.
